Siriyiri Assembly Member Calls for Support to Improve Healthcare in Remote Communities

Assembly Member for Siriyiri electoral area in the Wa West Dsitrict of the Upper West Region Mr. Osman Adams has called for greater logistical support for health workers serving remote communities, saying difficult travel conditions and long distances are hindering access to essential care.
Speaking to Info Radio during the visit of the Director General of Ghana Health Service to the Siriyiri community, Mr Adams, who represented the Chief of Siriyiri,-Naah Alhassan, said nurses and other health professionals in Siriyiri face significant logistical and environmental challenges when reaching underserved communities. These difficulties according to him can delay treatment and place additional strain on staff travelling to attend to patients.
He urged authorities to provide the resources and support systems needed to help health workers deliver services efficiently and safely, particularly in deprived areas.
The Director-General of Ghana Health Service Dr. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea speaking during his visit to the community acknowledged the concerns, citing staff shortages and inadequate transportation as key obstacles to healthcare delivery in remote communities. The Director-General said transportation would be allocated to deprived areas to improve access to care and help health workers carry out their duties.
The planned allocation is expected to address some of the barriers facing both healthcare workers and residents, though no timeline or further details were provided.
