Disability Federation Chair Calls for Accessible Public Offices in Wa West

The Chairman of the Ghana Federation of Persons with Disabilities in the Wa West District, Mr. Jungmere Saavurooma Charles, has called on authorities to make public offices more accessible to persons with disabilities.
Speaking to Info Radio, Mr Charles said several public buildings lack ramps and other facilities needed by wheelchair users. He cited the Wa West District Assembly, which has a ramp at its entrance but no ramp leading to the conference hall.
He said a woman with a disability once fell while attempting to descend into the hall, adding that similar accessibility challenges exist at the health insurance office and other public offices.
Mr Charles also raised concerns about the poor condition of the road leading to the Ghana Education Service district office, which he said is riddled with potholes. He noted that many offices, including the regional education office, are located upstairs and can only be reached by ordinary staircases, effectively preventing wheelchair users from accessing them.
He pointed to the Regional Hospital as a positive example, saying ramps there enable wheelchair users to reach upper-level units.
Mr Charles urged relevant authorities to install ramps and improve access to public buildings, saying people with disabilities should be able to use essential services independently and safely.
