Residents of Zanko in the Guo Electoral Area, Wa West District have decried the difficulty school children at the community basic school go through to access water to drink during classes’ hours.

They said the community has only one borehole which is also far from the school which has made it difficult for the children get water to drink.

Madam Sunkari Yuonye, a cook at the school told Info Radio in an interview at the community that the school children has to fetch water for them to cook on daily basis but that those children who go to fetch the water sometimes missed classes as they have to join long queues at the borehole.

Mr Issahaku Daluo, a Unit Committee Member of the electoral area, said the borehole was constructed over 40 years ago, and that the population of the community has outweighed the capacity of the borehole.

He thus appealed to the government and benevolent individuals and organisations to go their aid by providing them with additional boreholes, particularly at the school.

On electricity, Mr Yelbani Yuonye, who represented the chief of the community, noted that the lack of electricity at some sections of the community is adversely affecting their lives, particularly the school children.

He said the school children are not able to learn in the night and appealed to Member of Parliament of the area, Superintendent (RTD) Peter Lanchene Toobu and the government to provide them with some street light for the children to learn while they prepare to connect the area to the national grid.

Madam Warikiatu Kojo, another resident of the community also added that women in the area bear the brunt of the lack of electricity as they have to cook at night without light.
