Residents of Woloyiri in the Buli Electoral Area of the Wa West District have voiced their frustration over the persistent absence of electricity in their community. Speaking to Info Radio, community members highlighted that despite multiple petitions and complaints to local authorities, no steps have been taken to connect Woloyiri to the national power grid.
The community residents emphasized that the lack of electricity is hindering local economic activities and disrupting the educational pursuits of school children, who are unable to study effectively after sunset. They appealed to government officials and relevant agencies to prioritize the extension of electricity to Woloyiri, noting that some districts within the same electoral area have reportedly been included in recent electricity extension projects.
Hon. Piiri Daful Frank, Assemblyman for the Buli Electoral Area, confirmed that only Buli, the electoral area capital, currently benefits from electricity. He lamented that the remaining six communities within the electoral area remain without access, which continues to impede development and economic growth. He urged authorities to consider extending power infrastructure to these underserved communities to enhance livelihoods and promote social and economic development.
The residents' call underscores the urgent need for infrastructural development in the area, with many hoping their plea will be prioritized in upcoming development plans.
