Youth and residents of Konzokala, a farming community in the Daffiama Area Council have called on the government to prioritize the construction of a community dam, emphasizing its potential to transform livestock rearing and dry season farming in the area.
During an Info Radio community engagement session with residents, Mr. Nuoba-ea Peter Clever, Vice Chairman of the Konzokala Youth Association, highlighted the severe impact of water scarcity on economic activities. He explained that many young people engaged in animal husbandry face significant challenges due to the lack of a reliable water source. As a result, they often struggle to find water for their livestock, frequently traveling to neighboring Dakyie community to irrigate their animals. This situation not only hampers livestock productivity but also discourages youth participation in productive agricultural activities.
Mr. Clever emphasized that the proposed community dam would facilitate dry season farming, offering opportunities for youths to engage in sustainable agriculture. Such development could help alleviate poverty and reduce rural-urban migration by creating reliable livelihood options. He urged authorities to ensure equitable access to government agricultural interventions, stressing that involving communities like Konzokala in such programs would significantly enhance food security and empower local youth.
Mr. Clever expressed disappointment over the community’s exclusion from recent government initiatives. He mentioned that the youth had expected to benefit from the Nkoko Nkitinkiti poultry policy but had received no information or support to participate. Similarly, despite fertilizer distributions in 2025, farmers in Konzokala did not receive any assistance, raising concerns about the fairness and inclusivity of government support.
Mr. Emmanuel Tiesa, the Youth President of Konzokala, also voiced concerns about widespread unemployment among the youth. He lamented the lack of job opportunities, noting that many young people have attempted to seek employment but have been unsuccessful. He appealed to the government, NGOs, and philanthropists to intervene and support youth empowerment initiatives.
