Residents of Kakyuu appeal for more boreholes to alleviate sufferings

Residents of Kakyuu in the Eggu Electoral Area in the Wa West District have appealed to the government and philanthropists for additional boreholes to draw potable water close to their doorsteps and alleviate their sufferings.

They said the additional sources of potable water will help reduce the challenges they were presently experiencing.

They indicated that the community of over 1,000 people depended on only one borehole for their water needs.

They said they previously had two boreholes but one had broken down leaving no option than to crowd over the single functional borehole.

They said it was the Pentecostal Church that provided them with a borehole which had been the source of relief in the face of the water challenges.

Mr Diye, a resident of the community, said they had to drink water from streams whenever the boreholes are broken down.

He said the water from the streams too posed risk to their health as the sources may be contaminated or guinea-worm infested.

He lamented that women had to trek about an hour before they could get to the stream to fetch the water.

He thus appealed to the government and benevolent individuals to come to their aid and alleviate their plight.
