Residents of Kachiau in Wa West Faces Water Crisis

Residents of Kachiau in the Kandeu Electoral Area of Wa West District are appealing to local authorities to urgently address their ongoing water shortage crisis. During a recent community engagement with Info Radio, residents highlighted their reliance on a single borehole, which is insufficient to meet the community’s water needs. According to residents, Many households are forced to fetch water from streams or travel to Wechiau in search of potable water, posing significant hardships.

The community residents also appealed for the construction of a new community dam and the rehabilitation of a town water extension project that has remained non-operational for the past five years. They emphasized that improved water infrastructure is essential to ease their daily struggles and ensure access to clean water for all.

In response to these concerns, Wa West District Chief Executive, Hon. Richard Wulo, acknowledged the severity of the water challenges facing Kachiau. He assured residents that the district authorities are committed to taking immediate steps, including the installation of an additional borehole, to alleviate the community’s water crisis and improve overall water access.
