The Vice-Chancellor of Garden City University (GCU), Professor Eric Kwasi Ofori, has urged newly admitted students to pursue academic excellence, maintain discipline and uphold ethical conduct throughout their studies.

Addressing students at the university’s matriculation ceremony for the 2026/2027 academic year on October 16, 2026, Prof. Ofori said students were expected to embody GCU’s standards and values, with integrity and academic achievement at the heart of the institution’s mission.

He encouraged them to embrace the university’s vision of developing innovators and transformational leaders who can drive social change and socioeconomic development in Ghana and beyond.

Prof. Ofori also outlined plans to expand and improve the university’s facilities. A seven-storey lecture hall and laboratory complex, which began construction in August 2026, is expected to be completed in July 2027.

Other improvements include upgrading public-address systems, installing additional LED projectors and large television screens in lecture halls, and providing more ceiling fans to enhance classroom ventilation and comfort.

The university has also acquired software to improve student-records management and streamline administration. Prof. Ofori said the system was expected to support more efficient academic processes and help facilitate the timely graduation of students in professional programmes at the School of Health and Allied Sciences.

Speaking on behalf of her fellow students, matriculant Gloria Donkor commended management for providing a conducive teaching and learning environment, while calling for further improvements.

She appealed for additional classrooms to ease pressure on existing facilities and urged the university to strengthen security across the campus and in student hostels. Her suggestions included installing more streetlights, extending CCTV coverage and improving safety measures for university transport services.
