Kataah residents appeal for electricity and access to safe water

Residents of Kataah in the Wa East District have renewed calls for the government to extend the national electricity grid to their community, saying years of repeated appeals have yet to bring a lasting solution.
Assembly Member for Baayiri, Bayor Anonama, who spoke on behalf of the residents, said Kataah remained the only community in the area without electricity, despite neighbouring communities being connected to the grid.
Mr Anonama said he had raised the matter at the General Assembly and, alongside the chief and elders, had also engaged the District Chief Executive, Adamu Sayibu. He said the DCE had assured them that steps would be taken to extend electricity to the community.
He appealed to Mr Sayibu and the Member of Parliament for Wa East, Dr Godfred Seidu Jasaw, to prioritise the project, saying electricity would improve living conditions and support economic and social activities.
Mr Anonama also identified inadequate access to potable water as a major concern. He urged relevant authorities and development partners to support the drilling of additional boreholes to improve residents’ access to safe drinking water.
