Residents of Die appeal for reliable access to clean drinking water

ree

Residents of Die, a farming community in the Jirapa Municipality of the Upper West Region, have expressed growing concern over the persistent lack of access to potable drinking water.

While acknowledging recent efforts by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Jirapa, who facilitated the drilling of a borehole, community members say the intervention is yet to fully address their water needs.

They revealed that the installation of the borehole is still pending, leaving them to rely on unsafe sources, particularly during the dry season.

“We have water challenges in this community,” a resident told Info Radio. “But we appreciate the MP’s support a borehole was recently drilled. We are now waiting for the installation to be completed.”

Residents noted that in the absence of safe water, they are often forced to fetch water from rocky areas, which raises concerns about the health risks associated with unclean sources.

Mr. Culbert Dery, the Unit Committee Chairman for the Die/Zengpeni electoral area, emphasized the urgency of the situation. He explained that the community’s growing population far exceeds the capacity of the limited water sources currently available.

“The demand for clean water has outgrown the supply. One borehole, especially one not yet functional, is simply not enough for our entire community,” Mr. Dery said.

The residents are now calling on the government and the Jirapa Municipal Assembly to step in and provide additional water infrastructure to ensure every household has reliable access to safe drinking water.

They emphasize that access to clean water is not only a fundamental necessity but also crucial to public health and the overall well-being of the community.
