Residents of Dalanyiri in the Dornye Electoral Area of the Wa West District have raised serious concerns about the state of their crucial connecting road to Wechiau. Despite efforts to reshape the route in 2024, residents say the road has rapidly deteriorated and remains in a deplorable condition, hampering daily activities and economic pursuits.
The residents lament that the road has seen no significant improvement since 2014, making access to markets, healthcare facilities, and other essential services increasingly difficult. The route serves as a vital economic link connecting Dalanyiri, Wechiau, and Kaliba in the Savannah Region, where farmers regularly sell their produce.
Speaking to Info Radio, Mr. Tie-ere Alfred emphasized the urgent need for repairs, highlighting that the poor state of the road has contributed to frequent accidents and delays in transportation. "Fixing this road should be a top priority for authorities because it affects our livelihood and safety," he stated.
Mr. Mul Bismarck, another resident, speaking to Info Radio on the poor state of the road, described the road as riddled with potholes, which significantly delay residents’ access to health services in Dornye and Wechiau. The community members expressed their frustration, calling on relevant authorities to address the issue promptly.
The deteriorating condition of the Dalanyiri-Wechiau road continues to pose a serious challenge for residents, underscoring the need for urgent intervention to restore safe and reliable transportation routes in the area.
