Residents of Chaangu appeal for maternity ward at CHPS compound

Residents of Chaangu in the Sakana South Electoral Area in the Nadowli-Kaleo District have appealed for a maternity ward at the Community-based Health Planning and Service (CHPS) Compound in the community to improve healthcare delivery.

The residents said they have a CHPS facility but pregnant women cannot deliver at the facility due to the lack of the maternity ward.

They, thus, called on district assembly and health authorities as well as benevolent entities to support them by providing a complete maternity ward for the facility.

Speaking to Info Radio at the community, Mr. Mohammed Dari said aside the lack of a maternity ward at the facility, it also lacks essential medicines for patients visiting the facility.

“This health facility is here but women deliver elsewhere because we do not have the maternity ward here.

“Most often, patients visiting the facility are referred to other health facilities in different towns for medical attention because the drugs are not enough here,” he explained.

Mr. Joshua Gariba, another resident, further lamented the fact that expectant mothers have to go to Sakana Health facility to deliver as result some women delivered on the way.

He said that the lack of maternity ward where expectant mothers could easily put to bed and the absence of sufficient medicines at the facility have still hampered access to healthcare services in the community.

“Even though we have a health facility in the community, it still does not serve our greater health needs as we still have to seek medical services at some other places in most times,” Mr Gariba said.

Madam Vida Gyiiwaa therefore appeals to government to supply their health facility drugs to enable health conditions.

“So it is essential our leaders secure enough medicines for the facility. You come here today, no medicine, tomorrow, no medicine, the next day, no medicine, how will be get well of your sickness?” Madam Gyiiwaa appealed in her lamentation.
