Residents of Bongbere in Dire Need of Classrooms

Residents of Bongberi in the Varimpere Electoral Area of the Wa West District have expressed worry over the lack of classrooms at the Bongberi D/A Primary and Junior High School as schools are set to resume in January 2021 after the COVID-19 break.

A resident of the community, Gyirkar Eric speaking to Info Radio stated that the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) started the construction of a six unit classroom block for the school since 2016 but has come to a halt for the past three years due to unknown reasons.

The Assembly Member of Varimpere Electoral Area, Gyirkar Nicholas said a temporal structure which was built by the community has collapsed due to a heavy downpour.

The Assembly Member indicated that school children have to sit under trees for teaching and learning due to the lack of classrooms. He however noted that the children are not able to attend classes anytime it rains.

The people of Bongberi are therefore calling on the Wa West District Assembly and the government to complete the School structure before schools resume in January 2020.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 seeks to ensure equitable and inclusive access to quality education and lifelong learning for all by 2030.
