President John Dramani Mahama has re-nominated Madam Mary Haruna and Mr. Adamu Sayibu as District Chief Executive (DCE) nominees for the Nadowli-Kaleo and Wa East Districts, respectively—despite both facing rejection in their initial confirmation votes.
Madam Haruna, whose first bid fell short with 24 votes in favor and 28 against, is back in the spotlight, hoping to reverse the earlier decision by the Nadowli-Kaleo Assembly.
Meanwhile, Mr. Sayibu, who managed only 13 "Yes" votes out of 36 in the Wa East District—a meager 36.11%—is also being offered another shot at the position.

The re-nominations, announced in a statement signed by the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, reaffirm the President’s commitment to his chosen candidates.
However, they also reignite political tension as both Assemblies prepare to reconvene and either confirm or reject the nominees once more.
“This is part of the decentralisation process meant to strengthen local governance,” the statement emphasized, noting that the appointments remain subject to the Assemblies’ statutory approval.
