President Akuffo-Addo commends Nandom chiefs for maintaining peace


President Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo-Addo, on Wednesday, commended the Nandom Traditional Council for ensuring that peace prevail in the area in the in the midst of chieftaincy issues.


He said that singular act of ensuring they peacefully settled the chieftaincy dispute in selecting a paramount chief was a testament of their love for peace and development.


President Akufo-Addo gave the commendation at Nandom when he met the Nandom Traditional Council as part of his working visit to the Upper West Region.


The president began his two-day tour of the region on Tuesday to ascertain at first hand, the development challenges of the region and the concerns of the people.


He was also in the region to thank the chiefs and people for giving him and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) a second chance to govern the country as well as to apologize to the people for the military brutalities in Wa on Thursday, July 1, 2021.


“… the part that I find sweetest is the commitment you have made to ensure the peace in Nandom while the chieftaincy issue is being resolved”, the President said.


He was hopeful that the Nandom Traditional Council would soon get a paramount chief to help promote the development of the area.


on security, President Akuffo-Addo said his government would continue to work to reduce the incidents of armed robbery in the region to the barest minimum.


He also entreated the traditional leaders to support the security agencies to end the menace of fertilizer smuggling, which had been a canker impeding the success of the Planting for Food and Jobs programme.


He said other concerns regarding roads and electrification of the area would be considered, adding that the Ministry of Finance was also working to create a branch of Agricultural Development Bank in Nandom as well as to give a face lift to the St Theresa’s Hospital to make it befit the status of a district hospital.


The Member of Parliament for the Nandom Constituency, Mr Ambrose Dery, commended the President for extending development to the area, and said the people of the Nandom Municipality would forever be grateful to him.


“Your Excellency, be assured of the collective support of the people of Nandom for your government. Your Excellency the people of Nandom also want to extent our gratitude to you for reappointing Honourable Ambrose Dery as Minister for Interior”, the Acting President of the Nandom Traditional Council, Naa Domepreh Gyere III, has said.


He also thanked the president for facilitating the development of the Nandom Municipality, and said they were grateful for the developmental projects and programmes the President Akuffo-Addo led government introduce which had resulted to the unparalleled development of the area.


Naa Gyere, who was the Chief of Ko, cited the tarring of the Lawra-Nandom-Hamile road as one of the major development initiatives the President had brought to the area.
