NPP Upper West: Abdul Aziz Abdul-Rahman Retains Regional Chairmanship

Abdul Aziz Abdul-Rahman has retained his position as Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper West Region after defeating his sole challenger, Alhassan Kanton Alaska Braimah Nala, in the party’s regional executive elections held on Saturday August 15, 2026.

Mr. Abdul-Rahman secured 173 votes, while Mr. Nala polled 86 votes, giving the incumbent a decisive victory and another term to lead the party in the region.

Speaking to the media after the election, Mr. Abdul-Rahman pledged to work to unite the various factions within the party and bring all members on board as the NPP begins preparations for the 2028 general elections.

He said his immediate priority would be to promote unity and cooperation among party members in the region, which he believes will be critical to strengthening the party’s chances of returning to power.

The retained chairman also pledged to work towards securing victory for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate, in the 2028 elections.

While Mr. Abdul-Rahman retained the chairmanship, the election brought changes to several other key positions on the Upper West Regional executive.

Mohammed Saana Hamid, the incumbent Regional Youth Organizer, was elected Regional Organizer after polling 138 votes. Tanko Daniel Dawda won the Regional Secretary position with 186 votes. Majeed Limann and Philip Yaw Braimah were elected 1st and 2nd Vice Chairmen respectively.

There was also a change in the leadership of the party’s Women’s Wing. Minata Mumuni defeated incumbent Women’s Organizer Nancy Ayuo Dery, polling 139 votes against her opponent’s 116 votes. The result saw Ms. Mumuni, who served as deputy to the incumbent, take over the position.

The Youth Organizer position was won by Dodoo Yussif Sadat, who secured 158 votes. Yussif Alhassan was elected Deputy Secretary with 200 votes, while Ahmed Nana Sadat and Alhassan Suleman were elected Communication Officer and Treasurer respectively.

The election outcome gives Mr. Abdul-Rahman another mandate to lead the NPP in the Upper West Region as the party reorganises and prepares for the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.
