A Single-Hand Pump Borehole Serving More Than 600 Residents in Bilan/Murazu

Residents of Bilan/Murazu in the Dabo Electoral Area of the Wa West District are worried about the inadequate potable water situation in the community.

The residents are dissatisfied that more than 600 inhabitants depend on a single-hand pump borehole.

Mr Eledi Simon, a resident, speaking to Info Radio over the weekend said whenever the borehole breaks down they are compelled to drink from the river.   He said they share the single borehole with animals in the community.

"We are facing a serious challenge in accessing clean drinking water in our community. I was born in 1982 and for many years, we had no other source of water except for streams and valleys around us. In 2015, a borehole was drilled which now provides water for the more than 600 people living in our community. However, our entire water supply now depends solely on this borehole.”

Madam Pogsaa Bilan-naa, a resident of the community indicated that they have to queue at the borehole for long before they can get water to fetch.

“Because of the struggle to get water I have problems with my husband. As I talk to you I can still give birth but I’m unable to do so. I have to wake up early to go and look for water,” she explained.

Another resident of the community, Madam Stella Titus, expressed worry about the inadequate sources of water in the community and appealed to the government and benevolent organizations to come to their aid.
