Notorious Armed Robber Jailed 18 Years by Wa Circuit Court

The Upper West Regional Police Command has successfully secured the conviction of a notorious armed robber, bringing a sense of relief and renewed safety to residents of the region.
Adinan Mahmoud, 25, popularly known as "Okra," was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment with hard labor by the Wa Circuit Court on Monday, June 2, 2025. The sentence follows his arrest during a targeted intelligence-led operation conducted by the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate.
Okra was apprehended on Saturday, May 31, at his hideout in Sandamuni, a suburb of Wa Municipal. He had been on the police wanted list for a series of robberies reported across the region.
Presiding over the case, His Honor Jonathan Avoogo accepted the guilty plea entered by the accused to charges of conspiracy to commit crime, to wit robbery, and robbery. The court subsequently handed down the custodial sentence.
Two other individuals linked to the case, Abdulai Ibrahim, also known as "Baba," and Abdulai Kipo, have pleaded not guilty. They have been remanded into prison and police custody respectively. Their trial is set to continue today, Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the same court.
The conviction marks a significant milestone in the Command’s crime-fighting efforts.
ASP Michael Toya of the Public Affairs Directorate of the Upper West Regional Police Command reaffirmed the service’s commitment to public safety.
“The Command remains resolute in its efforts to track down and bring to justice all individuals who pose a threat to peace and security in the region,” he stated.
