The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) has announced plans to implement a cutting-edge electronic billing (e-billing) system aimed at transforming the customer billing experience and addressing ongoing concerns over billing accuracy. This strategic move is set to modernize the utility’s billing process by leveraging technology to deliver more precise and timely electricity bills.
In an interview with Info Radio, Aliu Abubakari, the Upper West Regional Customer Service Officer of VRA/NEDCo, revealed that the new system will enable meter readings to be captured electronically and transmitted directly to NEDCo’s billing platform in real time. This advancement will significantly reduce errors associated with manual meter reading methods and streamline the billing cycle.
Under the new system, meter readers will utilize electronic devices to record consumption data, which will then be immediately relayed to the billing system. Customers will benefit from prompt notifications once their bills are generated and will have convenient access to their consumption details through digital platforms.
Additionally, Mr. Abubakari assured customers that payments made via NEDCo’s shortcode platform are reflected instantaneously in the system, ensuring accurate and up-to-date account balances. Customers seeking physical proof of payment or transaction history will still be able to obtain printed statements from NEDCo offices.
This technological upgrade underscores NEDCo’s commitment to improving service delivery, enhancing billing transparency, and fostering greater customer trust through innovative solutions. The rollout of the electronic billing system is expected to significantly improve the utility’s operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
