MTN Ghana has continued its commitment to transforming education through its flagship MTN Bright Scholarship Scheme, awarding 500 scholarships for the 2025/2026 academic year. The ceremony, held on Monday, September 8, 2025, at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), celebrated academic excellence and reinforced the company's dedication to empowering Ghanaian youth.
The event saw the presentation of scholarships to 187 female and 313 male students from across the country, underscoring MTN’s ongoing efforts to promote gender equality and inclusive access to quality education. Since its relaunch in 2018, the scheme has supported a total of 720 students nationally, providing comprehensive financial assistance that covers tuition, accommodation, and stipends for books and living expenses.
The initiative has made a significant impact on Ghana’s educational landscape, producing 10 valedictorians and top graduates, with 520 students attaining First Class Honours and 94 securing Second Class Upper Division degrees. These achievements exemplify MTN Ghana’s belief in education as a catalyst for socio-economic mobility and national development.

Speaking on behalf of MTN Ghana’s Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Blewett, Dr. Isaac Mate, General Manager for Sustainability and Shared Value, highlighted the scheme’s role in fostering academic excellence. “This achievement demonstrates that with the right resources and support, students can thrive and contribute meaningfully to society,” he stated. “MTN’s Bright Scholarship continues to be a beacon of hope for students and families across Ghana.”
MTN Ghana also plans to expand the program to support up to 1,500 beneficiaries over the next three years. The company aims to prioritize students pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), vocational and technical disciplines, as well as educators seeking advanced training. This year’s gender-balanced cohort reflects the company’s unwavering commitment to inclusivity, with 187 female students among the recipients—many of whom are pursuing careers in STEM.
The 2025 edition received 3,691 applications nationwide. After a rigorous selection process involving shortlisting and interviews, 500 beneficiaries were chosen, including 300 undergraduates in STEM and technical fields, 200 teachers enhancing their skills at public universities, and 33 differently-abled students.
The awards ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries, education stakeholders, and traditional leaders.

Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, lauded MTN Ghana’s leadership in addressing educational inequalities. “This scholarship not only offers hope but also corrects systemic imbalances, ensuring all students—regardless of gender or background—have a fair chance to succeed,” he said. He commended the scheme’s focus on STEM and called on beneficiaries to excel and inspire others to follow suit.

Throughout the event, recipients shared heartfelt testimonies of how the scholarship alleviated financial burdens, enabling them to focus on their academic pursuits and realize their potential. Many expressed gratitude for the life-changing opportunity provided by MTN Ghana.
