MANWE NAA APPEALS TO GOVERNMENT TO SUPPORT LOCAL MINERS IN ACQUIRING MINING LICENSE

The paramount Chief of Manwe Traditional Area, Naa Abubakari Yussif Wiah, has called on the government of Ghana to ease the steps in acquiring license and concession for Small Scale Miners, especially, those in the upper west region. Commending government for the bold steps it has taken so far towards sanitizing the mining industry, the chief however bemoaned the hurdles one has to go through in acquiring a license and concession for operation after training. ”Our community and others in the district have lands with gold resources and obviously, the youth have a special interest to create jobs for themselves. Many of the young men and women have undertaken the training programs instituted by your government to sanitize the sector. However, these young men and women are finding it difficult to obtain license and concessions to operate and humbly appeal to you to let the minister in-charge of the sector to assist them in securing licenses and concessions to reduce unemployment in our communities and the district at large.” The Revered Chief made the appeal at Manwe in the Wa East District, during a special durbar organized in honor of the President H.E. Nana Akuffo Addo on his two day working visit to the Upper West Region.

His Excellency, the president, in response, indicated that he has taken note of all the concerns raised by the chief and pledged to attend to them accordingly. He also used the occasion to plead with the people of Wa East to give him “Four more to do more” for Ghana, adding that the constituents should also, vote for the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate, Salifu Yakubu. The president on Friday 9th October, 2020, was in the Upper West Region; on a two day working visit.
