Lawra MP holds free health screening for constituents

The Member of Parliament for Lawra Constituency, Mr Bede A. Ziedeng, has funded a free medical screening for the people of Lawra and the Babile Traditional area.

This initiative is part of his many projects aimed at improving healthcare delivery in the constituency and ensuring that people have access to check their health status.

The program has already benefited a total of 658 people who were screened for various health conditions, including blood pressure, eye screening, malaria, hepatitis B, blood sugar, and many others.

Mr Ziedeng's vision is to ensure that his constituents have access to quality healthcare, regardless of their economic situations and accessibility.

The screening program is in two phases: the first phase covered the Babile and Lawra Traditional areas, while the second phase will cover the Eremong and Zambo Traditional areas.

During the program, Mr Ziedeng also donated sanitary pads to support over 113 young girls in caring for their monthly menstrual cycle.

He outlined some of the interventions he has made in the area of health, including mechanizing the Water Systems at Dowmini and Eremong Health Centres, providing three heavy-duty air-conditioners to the Cold room of the Lawra Hospital, and supporting the construction of a Maternity Ward, among others.

The MP thanked the Health Democrats, a group of health professionals who carried out the screening, and called on the constituents to collaborate with them for the successful program.

He promised to have a second phase of the program for some of the communities within the district to get everyone access to healthcare.

In an interview with Info Radio at Lawra, the Team Leader for the Health Democrats, Dr Charles Lwanga Bayel, said that they are a registered organization that collaborates with other institutions and individuals to ensure such health screening exercises for people, especially those without NHIS Cards, who cannot have access to healthcare services in their various localities.

The leader urged the people of Lawra and the entire region to take their healthcare seriously and always check themselves out at least once every three months to prevent any health complications.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the MP for the screening, saying that the exercise helped them understand their health statuses for better treatment.
