Lack of Junior High School Increasing Teenage Pregnancy Cases in Teyaga - Nadowlo-Kaleo

The Assembly Member for the Yiziiri Electoral Area in the Nadowli-Kaleo District, Mr. Bapuara Joseph, has raised urgent concerns over the rising incidence of teenage pregnancy in the Teyaga community. Speaking to Info Radio during the annual Teyaga Zomburo Festival, Mr. Joseph highlighted that the community's educational infrastructure gap is a significant contributing factor.

Mr. Joseph explained that the absence of a local junior high school forces many pupils to undertake long and often perilous journeys to neighboring communities to continue their education after primary school. These extended trips, compounded by transportation challenges, expose young girls to increased risks, including teenage pregnancies. He emphasized that the difficult access to education not only jeopardizes the safety and well-being of students but also discourages many from pursuing further schooling.

The Assembly Member pointed out that this lack of educational facilities has adversely impacted enrollment and retention rates, with some students dropping out before completing their basic education. He called on government authorities, development partners, and stakeholders to prioritize the construction of a junior high school in Teyaga.

Mr. Joseph urged immediate action to improve access to quality education in the community, underscoring that such development would not only foster academic achievement but also serve as a vital step toward reducing teenage pregnancies and empowering the youth for a brighter future.
