Jirapa MCE-Lawyer Nicholas Soyiri

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Jirapa, Lawyer Nicholas Soyiri, faced defeat in his quest to become the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Jirapa Constituency in the Upper West Region.

Lawyer Nicholas Soyiri polled 331 votes, while his opponent, Hajia Aisha Salifu, the Deputy Chief Executive for Zongo Development Fund, emerged victorious with 364 votes.

After the election, Mr Soyiri pledged his support for Hajia Aisha Salifu and refuted allegations of assaulting a former constituency executive on the Election Day.

“I wish to put this on record that I have seen some media reports alleging that I assaulted a former constituency secretary, I want to state it here that I never assaulted a former constituency secretary,” he stated.

Hajia Aisha expressed appreciation to the delegates and called for unity ahead of the 2024 general election.

“I want to congratulate the MCE for also show up to contest and I want to thank the whole of Jirapa NPP constituency and of course sympathizers of the party. We embarked on a clean campaign with a strong message and I want to say today that Jirapa is the winner.

The dream of bringing Jirapa back to its state that it deserves has just begun and I cannot do it alone but with the support of the MCE and his supporters which is the entire NPP,” she stated.

She continued that “I’m going to lead a Jirapa NPP to contest fiercely the NDC without insults but with facts and our good deeds. We are going into the elections with facts”.

Hajia Aisha Salifu is set to contest against the incumbent Member of Parliament and NDC parliamentary candidate for Jirapa constituency, Cletus Seidu Dapilah, in the 2024 general election.
