Education stakeholders in the Wa West District have intensified their calls for increased community participation and inclusive education practices to boost access to quality basic education. The appeal was voiced during an Inclusive Dialogue Forum held in Wechiau, organized by the Youth Empowerment for Life Foundation (YEFL Ghana) under the auspices of the CLEAR Project.

The forum brought together a diverse array of representatives, including officials from the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Wa West District Assembly, Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), School Management Committees (SMCs), head teachers, students, youth organizations, and groups advocating for persons with disabilities. The gathering aimed to foster dialogue and collaboration among key stakeholders committed to transforming the educational landscape in the district.

Speaking at the event, YEFL Ghana Project Officer Samira Dawood emphasized the importance of creating a safe and open platform for community members to engage directly with education authorities and district officials. “This dialogue is a vital step towards understanding the challenges faced in our schools and identifying concrete opportunities to improve educational outcomes,” Ms. Dawood stated.

Participants received updates on ongoing efforts by education authorities to address resource limitations and other barriers hindering effective service delivery. Attendees also shared firsthand experiences concerning issues faced by children with disabilities and marginalized groups within the community. Notably, some visually impaired students recounted instances of discrimination, including derogatory comments and being labeled by their disabilities rather than their names—experiences that undermine their confidence and willingness to attend school.
