Government’s failure to meet our demands triggered the nationwide strike - TUTAG

The Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG) said the government’s failure to meet their demands triggered the nationwide strike yesterday.

Speaking on Info Radio’s news and current affairs program yesterday, June 14, 2021, the TUTAG chairman for Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University, Joshua Potag, stated that some members who are due for retirement have been left frustrated due to the failure of government to pay their tier two pension.

He added that the government has not paid their research and book allowance since 2018, which he considered unfair.

Mr. Joshua Potag also expressed dissatisfaction with the difficulty of obtaining accreditation for academic programs at Technical Universities from the appropriate bodies as compared to traditional universities, describing it as unjust.

The Chairman, on the other hand, said while they have withdrawn their services from teaching and attending academic meetings, their members are still advised to supervise final-year students' research work.

Meanwhile, the National Labour Commission (NLC) has scheduled a meeting with the association's leadership today to discuss their concerns. Info Radio will keep you updated on this development.
