Ghana at 67: MP for Wa West advises politicians to be truthful and measured in their promises

The Member of Parliament for Wa West Constituency, Supt. Peter Lanchene Toobu (rtd), has advised politicians to be truthful and realistic with the promises they make to their constituents.

As Ghana celebrates 67 years of Independence, Mr Toobu believes it is an opportune moment to reflect on our journey and the challenges that we have faced.

Supt. Toobu (rtd) speaking to Info Radio pointed out that certain areas in Ghana still do not have access to clean drinking water, and many people struggle with illnesses and inadequate healthcare facilities.

“After 67 years, we are still drilling boreholes and struggling with illnesses. CSM is still a part of our lives, and as we enter the months of February, March, and April, we know it will come back. Unfortunately, we do not have the strength to deal with it,” he stated.

However, Mr Toobu affirmed that we should take pride in our country's democratic achievements after 67 years.

He mentioned that one would expect to see growth and development in the lives of the citizens, but unfortunately, that has not been the case. He pointed out that there is corruption, deceit, and lies in our political system.

He warned that if politicians continue to make unrealistic promises, the citizens may eventually rebel against them. He emphasized the importance of honesty in politics, stating that if we don't put a stop to deceit and lies in our political system, it will reach a point where citizens will react violently towards politicians.

"If we don't put an end to deceit and lies in our political system, there will come a time when citizens will feel compelled to take matters into their own hands and hold politicians accountable. It is important to be honest with the people we serve, and we must strive to do so in order to build trust and maintain a functioning democracy,” he stated.
