GES takes Steps to Improve Teaching of Dagara Language in Schools

The Ag. Upper West Regional Director of Education, Mr Razak Abdul-Korah, has indicated that the directorate is working to improve the teaching and learning of Dagara language in schools.

He said as part of the efforts, the directorate is granting special request to Dagara Language teachers who apply for study leave.

Mr Abdul-Korah said this in Wa during the Second Conference of the Dagara Language and Culture organized by the Association of Dagara Teachers.

The two-day conference brought together Dagara Language teachers across the region and other stakeholders including traditional leaders to discuss the development of Dagara Language.

Mr Abdul-Korah explained that the directorate in the last three years had granted study leave to all Dagara teachers who applied for study leave to enable them acquire more skills and knowledge in the teaching of the Language.

A Member of the Dagara Wikimedia User Group, Madam Paula Daari, explained they are making efforts to store Dagara words into the internet.

This according to her will help students to learn the language on the internet at any given time.


The conference also discussed and adopted the names of the days of the week, months of the year and colours among others to harmonize the teaching of Dagara Language in school.

The committee endorsed the following as days of the week, months of the year and colours in Dagara.

1 Yedaare – Monday

2 Yidaare – Tuesday

3 Tadaare – Wednesday

4 Nadaare – Thursday

5 Nudaare – Friday

6 Yɔdaare – Saturday

7 Podaare – Sunday
