The Upper West Regional Nasara Organizer, formerly known as Nasara Coordinator for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Jadul-Haq Seidu, popularly known in political spheres as Alhaji Haki Jenjen, has voiced a determined optimism that the party will rebound from the crushing electoral defeat of 2024 and emerge as a genuine political force set to reclaim victory in the 2028 general elections.
In a candid interview with Info Radio’s "Ti Zinne Yiri Yela" show, Alhaji Haki Jenjen did not mince words in characterizing the party’s 2024 loss as humiliating. He lamented the ruling government's complacency, noting that despite clear signs of an impending defeat, those in power ignored cautionary signals.
“When defeat faces you head-on, even ears as large as an elephant’s fail to hear the warnings,” he lamented, underscoring a leadership blinded by arrogance and disregard for political reality.
The Wa Central constituency Nasara organizer delicately refrained from airing grievances about how hardworking party foot soldiers and executives were sidelined in the Akufo-Addo government appointments.
Nevertheless, he issued a clarion call for unity: “Many who were ushered into lucrative government positions overlooked those who built the party at the grassroots. Now, that’s past so we must unite and rebuild the NPP,” he insisted, emphasizing reconciliation as the key to revival.
Reflecting on the party’s failure to secure any parliamentary seats in Upper West, a region traditionally dominated by the opposition National Democratic Congress, Alhaji Haki Jenjen expressed no surprise but profound regret.
“Winning five seats in 2016 was a remarkable feat, but we failed to consolidate that advantage. We neglected the fundamental steps necessary to maintain those gains, which led to our eventual wipeout," he shared, his voice heavy with emotion, choosing to withhold further sensitive details.
Looking ahead, Alhaji Haki Jenjen highlighted the transformational impact of the recent NPP national delegates’ conference, which included a pivotal constitutional amendment expanding the Electoral College.
This structural change now enfranchises many former constituency executives who were previously marginalized, rekindling their enthusiasm to actively contribute to the party’s resurgence.
“This expansion is refreshing. Those once neglected now have a voice and are eager to work for the party,” he observed, urging all party members to bury old grudges and rally behind the collective mission.
True to his conviction, Alhaji Haki Jenjen called for the retention or elevation of committed party executives like himself and all those who sacrificed selflessly for the NPP’s cause.
Concurrently, he endorsed the democratic prerogative of delegates to vote out executives perceived to have been complacent or ineffective.
