In a heartwarming tale of triumph over adversity, Mr. Nuhu Rafiq Takono, a former drug addict and truck pusher, has made a passionate appeal to society to support individuals struggling with addiction, rather than stigmatizing them.
Mr. Takono's journey began at Wa Lorry Park, where he worked as a truck pusher and fell prey to peer pressure, leading him down the path of drug addiction. However, at the age of 16, he realized the devastating consequences of his actions and made a determined decision to change his story.
Despite facing numerous challenges, including financial difficulties and societal skepticism, Mr. Takono persevered and continued his education.
He went back to Junior High School, wrote the Basic Education Certificate Examination, and gained admission to T.I Ahmadiyya Senior High School.
After completing his secondary education, he pursued a course in dispensary at the then-Wa Polytechnic, now Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University, with the support of the Student Loan Trust Fund.
Today, Mr. Takono is a Senior Pharmacy Technician with the Ghana Health Service, and his remarkable journey from addiction to redemption earned him the prestigious "Inspiring Men Youth" award from the National Youth Authority, Upper West Region, in 2017.
With his experience, Mr. Takono is determined to support individuals struggling with addiction through his Rehabilitation into Clean Cities Foundation.
The foundation aims to provide vocational training and educational support to drug addicts and street children, empowering them to become useful members of society.
Mr. Takono's ambition doesn't stop there; he dreams of becoming a Surgical Doctor, and with the support of well-meaning individuals and organizations, he hopes to realize his dreams and make a meaningful impact in his community.
As concerns about drug addiction continue to grow in the Upper West region, Mr. Takono's story serves as a beacon of hope, highlighting the need for a supportive environment and the importance of empowering individuals to overcome their struggles.
