Eremon SHS fire preliminarily caused by overheated electric iron


Dormitory razed by inferno

Preliminary investigations by officials of NADMO reveal that the fire incident at the Eremon Senior High Technical School was caused by overheating of an electric iron following powerful fluctuation.


Information available indicated that the incident, which occurred on Monday night during prep hours, razed completely 5 rooms of a Girls’ Dormitory including a practicals worship.


A total of 170 students have been affected.


Mr Alfred, the Lawra Zonal Director of the NADMO, said the incident occurred around 1930hours when occupants of the dormitory were out on preps.


He said the situation, when fully accessed will be reported to the NADMO hierarchy for possible interventions.


Mr Alfred said the NADMO will intensify efforts at carrying out education and sensitization activities among the students on the prevention of fires.


He stated that all the belongings of the students who were domicile at the dormitory in the five rooms had been destroyed with no casualties recorded.


He hoped that when the report is sent to the NADMO hierarchy, swift support action would be granted the students.


Some students of the school, particularly the affected dormitory shared their thoughts with Info Radio.


One of them, a final student, said all their belongings worth hundreds of cedis had been destroyed including their books.
