The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper West Region has called on its supporters to be calm after its poor performance in last Saturday’s general election.
The party, which had three parliamentary seats in the region before the 2024 elections, lost all of them to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dr Dauda Tanko Daniel, the Upper West Regional Secretary of the NPP, speaking to Info Radio on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, apologized to party supporters for their humiliating defeat in the region.
“What I have to say is to call on all supporters of the NPP to be calm during this period. On behalf of the regional executive, I apologize to all our party members for not leading them to victory in the 2024 election. I assure each and every one that we will be visiting your various constituencies for us to sit and have a conversation and reorganize for the 2028 elections.”
Dr. Daniel noted that the party's poor performance in the region was primarily due to a lack of support from the top hierarchy. He pointed out that the Upper West Region, which had three seats going into the election, did not receive any substantial assistance from the party.
He mentioned that the party was aware of its impending defeat as the election approached.
The NPP lost all their three seats in the Upper West Region to the NDC. In the presidential election, the NDC polled 242,852 while the governing NPP had 89, 906.
