EC mounts platforms for 25 electoral areas in Wa Municipal

The Director of the Electoral Commission (EC) in Wa Municipality, Mr Ben Alaglo, has revealed that 25 out of the 28 electoral areas in the municipality have successfully mounted their platforms.

These platforms allow aspiring assembly members and unit committee members to present their manifestos and messages to the electorates. Additionally, it enables the electorates to ask the aspirants questions on their manifestos.

However, some electoral areas do not mount their platforms due to security reasons.

Mr Alaglo specifically mentioned that Dondoli, Yibile and Dokpong are among the electoral areas that could not mount their platforms.

“Out of the 28, I think we had 25 that held the platform. They are some security reasons some of them could not hold and we have to accept their position. Where the platform mounting will generate fight, with the help of the police we have to stop that platform mounting,”

He also indicated that aspirants should not show their political stands in their campaign as that was illegal and they could be disqualified.

“The law says assembly elections are non-partisan. Non-partisan means there shouldn’t be any sponsorship. It doesn’t say ones you’re a card bearing member of a political party you should be barred from contesting but they shouldn’t be party colouring,” he stated.
