Residents of Duu , a farming community in the Wa East District have voiced urgent concerns over government neglect, citing severely deteriorated road conditions that have contributed to fatalities and hindered access to essential services. The community made these grievances known during a recent engagement session with Info Radio at Duu, highlighting the dire state of the infrastructure connecting them to Wa and surrounding communities.

Community members speaking to Info Radio disclosed that the road network, established in 2007, is now in a state of disrepair, with aging bridges , built during the initial construction, abandoned and rendered unusable. This according to residents have significantly impacted their ability to reach Upper West Regional and Municipal Hospitals, leading to preventable deaths and ongoing suffering.

According to Mr. Iddi Hakeem, the Unit Committee Secretary for the Duu electoral area “The poor road conditions prevent sick residents from accessing healthcare promptly,” said one community member. “This has resulted in unnecessary loss of lives, and we are calling on the government to act urgently.”

In addition to healthcare access, residents emphasized the importance of repairing the roads to facilitate the transportation and sale of local farm produce in Wa, which is vital for their livelihoods. They appealed for immediate reconstruction and upgrading of the infrastructure to promote economic development and improve their quality of life.

Mr. Iddi Hakeem, Unit Committee Secretary for Duu, acknowledged that political parties have often used the road issues as campaign tools but stressed that tangible action remains elusive. “Despite political promises, our community continues to suffer due to the neglected state of these roads,” he remarked.

Mr. Saabeng Kakpan, the Unit Committee Chairman for Duu speaking to Info Radio on the matter , condemned the lack of proper connectivity, stating, “The road from Wa to Duu is in a terrible condition, and there is no proper link from Duu to other major communities. We feel abandoned and neglected, which hampers our development and access to vital services.”
