Drivers, passengers lament deplorable state of Wa-Kumasi road

Drivers of the State Transport Corporation (STC) have changed their usual route from Wa to Kumasi through Damango to Kintampo instead of the Bole-Bamboi route, due to the poor condition of the Sawla-Bole-Bamboi road, which is full of potholes.

This has affected their travel time and caused concern among the drivers. Mr. Asenso Samuel, a driver at the STC in Wa, speaking to Info Radio in Wa mentioned that STC have stopped using the road due to its bad nature.

“For STC we don’t use that road again, we use Kintampo-Fufulsi then Damango to Sawla because the road is not good. It is very bad; you see a road you don’t know where to pass. You can see a big hole not a pothole, the road is very bad.

When the road was even good from Accra to Wa by 5-6am you were in Wa. We set-off by 4pm from Accra and by 6am we are in Wa,” he added.

He mentioned that they now arrive in Wa between 10 am and 11 am due to the route diversion. He stated that the management of STC instructed them to always pass through the Kintampo-Damango road.

Mr Asenso lamented that the deplorable nature of the road is affecting their business and causing damage to their vehicles.

Several commuters who frequent the road have expressed their grievances about the poor condition of the road. They noted that the numerous potholes and gutters on the road make it difficult for vehicles to ply the route, which results in long hours of travel and negatively affects their health.

They are appealing to the Ministry of Roads and Highways to undertake rehabilitation works on the road to make transportation more efficient and convenient.
