DHLTU opens four-day capacity building workshop for staff


The Dr. Hilla Liman Technical University (DHLTU) has opened a four-day capacity-building workshop for its staff to enhance efficiency and improve the quality of service delivery.


The workshop will start from Tuesday to Friday. The workshop is to equip the staff with knowledge in quality assurance, grant writing and fundraising strategies.


Speaking at the opening of the workshop, the Vice-Chancellor of the school, Professor Elias K. N. Sowley, said the workshop will help the staff to be more creative in grant writing and also change their mindset about the school.

He said it will also enable teamwork among the staff toward the achieving vision and the mission of the institution.


Prof. Sowley noted that quality assurance knowledge will help create opportunities for the staff in terms of grant applications for their project.


Prof. Sowley also said funding and infrastructure are the major challenges affecting the development of the university.


He said insufficient infrastructure affects student enrollment in the university.


Dr. Violet Makuku, Quality Assurance Specialist

Dr. Violet Makuku, Quality Assurance Specialist, facilitated the workshop and said she will assist the university to meet its status as a university after it was upgraded from a Polytechnic to a technical university.


She noted that the institution should be able to generate funds on its own and also to drive the economy through industrialization and commercialization of programs.


He added that the workshop can help transform the university to be financially independent.


She also mentioned that per her research on the institution, the lack of bungalows is affecting the smooth running of the university.


Dr. Makuku added that she will continue to monitor until the aim is achieved.
