The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Daffiama-Bussie-Issa, James Wor, has taken decisive action in the fight against illegal gambling in the district, demonstrating a strong stance to protect youth and uphold public order.
On Tuesday June 3, Mr. Wor led a direct intervention at Tabiesi where a Chinese national and a Ghanaian were apprehended for operating unlicensed jackpot machines. The two suspects were immediately handed over to the district police for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The DCE issued a stern 24-hour ultimatum for the removal of all jackpot machines from the district. He has also directed the Ghana Police Service in the district to ensure that no gambling activities, particularly those targeting minors and vulnerable communities, are allowed to take place henceforth.
“This district will not be a haven for illegal gambling,” Mr Wor said. “We are committed to protecting our children and shielding them from the destructive effects of gambling. Operators of such machines should consider this their final warning.”

Jackpot and slot machines have increasingly become a source of concern in many communities across the region, with reports linking them to rising cases of school truancy, petty theft, and other forms of social vices.
Community members have lauded the DCE’s bold move, calling it a timely intervention that will help restore discipline and safety in the district.
The police are expected to conduct further operations to identify and dismantle any remaining illegal gambling setups in the area, while community leaders have pledged their support to the initiative.
