The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District, Hon. James Wor, has raised urgent concerns over the dire state of healthcare infrastructure and supplies within the district. In an interview with Info Radio, Hon. Wor voiced his alarm about the lack of adequate nurses’ accommodation and the persistent shortage of essential medical supplies, issues he says are severely hampering healthcare delivery in the region.
According to the DCE, many communities within the district are struggling with the absence of proper housing for health workers. “The shortage of nurses’ accommodation is a major obstacle,” he explained. “It discourages qualified health personnel from serving in these communities, which directly impacts the quality and availability of healthcare services.”
Hon. Wor assured residents and stakeholders that his office is committed to tackling these challenges. “Going forward, we will ensure that accommodation facilities are constructed alongside any new Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds to attract and retain healthcare workers,” he stated.
In addition to housing issues, the DCE highlighted critical shortages of medical supplies, including essential drugs, beds, and consumables, across several health facilities. He also pointed out systemic financial delays, noting that the late reimbursement of funds by the National Health Insurance Authority hampers the effective operation of health centers.
“These challenges are unacceptable, and they threaten the health and well-being of our people,” Hon. Wor emphasized. “It is imperative that urgent interventions are made to address these infrastructural and supply chain deficiencies to improve healthcare outcomes in our district.”
According to the DCE, the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District Assembly remains committed to collaborate with central government agencies and development partners to resolve these pressing issues and ensure that every community has access to quality healthcare services.
