The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Daffiama/Bussie/Issa, Hon. James Wor, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming agriculture into a sustainable and profitable enterprise for local farmers. Speaking during the second ordinary meeting of the district’s general assembly in Issa, Hon. Wor emphasized the critical role of agricultural development in boosting the local economy.
Highlighting key initiatives, Hon. Wor outlined several climate-resilient agricultural programs under the GIZ-funded REACH project aimed at enhancing productivity and sustainability. He revealed that proactive measures are underway to encourage farmers to cultivate larger quantities of cassava in the upcoming rainy season, with the goal of supplying the underutilized Gari processing plant in Jolinyiri, which has remained dormant since its completion five years ago.
The DCE stressed that agriculture remains the backbone of the district’s economy and pledged continued efforts to improve yields and resilience among farmers. He also announced the successful completion and handover of the Kojokpere and Tabiasi dams to their respective communities, marking a significant milestone in local irrigation infrastructure.
Addressing ongoing infrastructural projects, Hon. Wor noted that the contract for the Wogu Dam, which faced delays and challenges, has been terminated. However, he assured that plans are in motion to re-award the project and bring it to fruition, further supporting local agricultural activities.
The district’s leadership remains resolute in their vision to foster a resilient and prosperous agricultural sector, harnessing climate-smart solutions and infrastructural development to benefit the local farming communities.
