Convert Brifoh SHS into a Boarding School: School Authorities Appeal

Management and students of Brifoh Day Senior High School in the Lawra municipality have appealed to the government and the Member of Parliament for the area to convert the school into a boarding school. According to a cross-section of students at the school and authorities, the day status of the school is affecting the effective learning of students. The authorities of the school have also appealed to the Member of Parliament for the Lawra constituency to assist in making the school an examination center to enable final-year students to write their exams with ease. The Brifoh school authorities and students made the appeal when the Member of Parliament for the Lawra constituency made a cash donation to the school to assist school authorities in purchasing food for final-year students writing the 2023 West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Receiving support from the Lawra legislature, the final-year students expressed their profound gratitude to the MP for supporting them to write the final exams successfully. The MP for the Lawra constituency, Mr. Bede Ziendeng, speaking to Info Radio on the issues at the Brifoh SHS, said he is working hard with relevant government agencies to get the school to become a boarding school. According to the Lawra MP, the school also deserved examination center status. This, he said, will enable final-year students to write their exams with peace of mind instead of relocating to a different center to prepare for an examination. The MP indicated that the whole of Lawra municipality has only two examination centers for WASSCE candidates, a situation he described as worrisome, taking into consideration the vastness of the municipality. Mr. Bede Ziendeng, however, also lamented about the lack of relevant infrastructure facilities at the Brifoh SHS and called on the government and the Ministry of Education to provide the required school infrastructure for the school to make it function better.
