Capacity Enhancement and Community Support (CAPECS) Ghana, a dedicated local non-governmental organization based in Wa, in the Upper West Region of Ghana has intensified its campaign across communities in the Upper West Region. The initiative aims to empower residents to embrace traditional conflict resolution methods, emphasizing dialogue, respect for cultural values, and indigenous dispute resolution techniques as vital pathways to harmony.
CAPECS Ghana’s focus on community engagement and education underscores its belief in the strength of indigenous mechanisms to resolve disputes peacefully. The organization’s efforts are particularly timely in a region where communal harmony is essential for development and social stability.
Speaking on Info Radio popular afternoon News Current Affairs Program Tizine Yiri Yela , Mr. Raymond Dombo, the Principal Research Officer at the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs, highlighted the crucial role traditional conflict resolution plays in fostering understanding and unity within communities. “Traditional conflict resolution plays an important role in promoting understanding and unity within homes and communities,” Mr. Dombo explained. He emphasized that these indigenous methods, rooted in cultural practices, have proven effective in resolving disputes without escalating tensions.
Miss Patricia Banoeyele, Head of Programs at CAPECS Ghana, speaking during the program reinforced this perspective, noting that traditional mechanisms continue to be widely used at the community level to settle disputes. “These indigenous systems are vital in maintaining peace and social cohesion among local people,” she stated. Ms. Banoeyele pointed out that leveraging these age-old methods can complement formal legal processes, ensuring disputes are addressed in ways that resonate with community values.
CAPECS Ghana’s initiative underscores a broader movement to preserve and promote indigenous conflict resolution practices, recognizing their importance in building resilient and harmonious communities. As the organization continues to champion these methods in the Nadowli-Kaleo and Daffiama-Busie - Issa Districts and other parts of the Upper West Region where the NGO is implementing the project.
