DVLA Begins Digital Vehicle Re-Registration to Enhance Road Safety and Combat Fraud

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has commenced a nationwide initiative to transition manual vehicle registration and documentation processes into a comprehensive digital system. This landmark move aims to bolster road safety, improve vehicle monitoring, and eliminate the circulation of fake roadworthiness certificates.

Speaking on Wa-based Info Radio, during a public sensitization campaign in the Upper West Region, the Acting Deputy Director of Legal at the DVLA, Mr. Edmond Sibiri Kardiri, outlined the objectives of the reform. He emphasized that the current manual system has posed significant challenges in verifying the authenticity of roadworthiness certificates, which has contributed to the proliferation of counterfeit stickers on vehicles.

Madam Sariata Musah Froko, the Acting Director of Legal at the DVLA, further explained the re-registration process. Vehicle owners are required to visit their nearest DVLA office with their vehicle, existing registration documents, and a valid Ghana Card. Owners who did not complete a change of ownership at the point of purchase will need to present relevant ownership documentation. In cases where such documents are unavailable, owners will be instructed to obtain a court order to facilitate the re-registration.
