The assembly member for Sigri Electoral Area in the Jirapa municipality of the Upper West Region, Honorable Dakurah Thomas, has raised serious concerns over the persistent water scarcity affecting the community. During a recent community engagement, Honorable Dakurah highlighted that the community’s only borehole is outdated and has broken down multiple times, despite several repair efforts by residents, all to no avail.
According to the assembly member, the malfunctioning borehole has severely impacted residents’ access to clean water, creating an urgent need for intervention. “The current situation is untenable,” Honorable Dakurah stated. “The community cannot obtain enough water from the existing borehole, which is now beyond repair.”
He further disclosed that multiple letters have been sent to both the Jirapa District Assembly and the Member of Parliament for Jirapa, requesting the installation of a new borehole and comprehensive repairs to the existing one. However, he lamented that no concrete actions have been taken thus far.
Honorable Dakurah called on local authorities, including the MP and the municipal assembly, to prioritize the issue and act swiftly to address the water shortage. He emphasized that the increasing population of Sigri necessitates the establishment of additional borehole facilities to ensure sustainable water supply.
Residents of Sigri have expressed their frustration over the ongoing water crisis, urging authorities to take immediate steps to resolve the issue and prevent further hardship. The community’s plea underscores the critical need for urgent intervention to secure clean and reliable water access for Sigri’s residents.
