Agric Ministry begins registration of farmers for PFJ 2.0

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) on Tuesday, March 12 launched a nationwide registration of farmers as part of the second phase of the Planting for Food and Jobs Programme (PFJ Phase 2).

The PFJ Phase 2, which was initiated in August last year, aims to provide an input-credit guarantee system for farmers to address the challenges faced during the first phase of the programme.

According to the Wa Municipal Extension Officer, Iddrisu Mahamoud, who spoke to Info Radio, the registration will commence in the region this week.

He said the PFJ Phase 2 will largely be driven by the private sector and is open to Ghanaians aged 18 years and above.

He noted that all applicants for the programme must have a Ghana Card and own a parcel of land.

He further mentioned that very soon officials from the Department of Agriculture will be visiting the various communities to register all farmers who are interested in the program.

According to Adams Abu Salia, the Crop Officer of Wa Municipal, the second phase of the Planting for Food and Jobs program offers registration for 11 different crops, including poultry rearing.

Some of the crops available for registration are maize, rice, soybeans, sorghum, tomatoes, onion, and yam.
