The Wa West District Agricultural Director, Mr Cephas Dabou Eremong, has bemoaned the delay in releasing funds by the District Assembly to organize this year’s farmers’ day event.
The Director noted that the Wa West District Department of Agriculture has a quota that the district assembly should give for organizing the event.
He indicated that the department is frustrated in organizing the event.
Speaking to Info Radio in Wa, Mr Dabou said the department has proposed to the district assembly 25 gallant farmers who will be awarded on the event day.
“As a unit or a department from the district assembly I see it as an activity that the money should be released for me to perform the activity,” he stated.
Mr Dabou mentioned that the department proposed to award 25 farmers but noted that they would be compelled to reduce the number if the assembly did not release enough funds for the event.
He, thus, noted that the 2023 Farmer’s Day event is going to be celebrated in the Tokali community in the Wa West District.
Mr Dabou, again lamented political interference in the selection of the awardees because it will not motivate other farmers to take an interest in farming.
“Politicians should stop interfering in our work and allow farmers to see the awards as a genuine one. It will motivate the farmers to work hard in order to get recognition,” he said.
