About 300 farmers in Lambussie district to receive start-up kits

About 300 farmers in the Lambussie District of the Upper West Region will receive various sets of business start-up kits under the Gulf of Guinea Social Cohesion Project (SOCO).

The support is intended to provide alternative livelihood to farmers in the district.

This was made known to Info Radio by the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Lambussie, Mr Naluri George Gerard, in his address during the 39th Farmers’ Day Celebration in Billaw, a community in the district.

Mr Naluri stated that “Under the Gulf of Guinea Social Cohesion Project, about 300 farmers will benefit from tremendous start-up kits. These include piggery and guinea fowls.”

He noted that efforts are being made by the government to mitigate the effects of climate change on farms for sustainable food security and income under the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project.

“The following interventions have been implemented at the Ghana Productive Safety Net programme in the district; presentation of start-up kits to 44 beneficiary farmers in the district, distribution of 85,000 cashew seedlings to farmers, establishment of 10 hectare cashew seedlings in Kani and Kpari, rehabilitation of the Piina Kokolegu dam for dry season gardening,” he added.

The assembly distributed farm inputs to farmers at the beginning of this year's farming season, according to the DCE.
