159 Students Graduate from Wa Technical University


The Wa Technical University held its maiden congregation on saturday with 159 students graduating with Higher National Diploma, HND. The graduating students studied courses ranging from ICT, Engineering, Secretaryship and Management and Pharmacy among others. Speaking at the Congregation, the Interim Vice Chancellor of the Wa Technical University, Professor Baba Insah noted that , the University have made proposal to run Bachelors of Technology programmes in the school.

He thus appealed to the government to allocate resources to the university for the construction of a hostel facility for students. He said the lack of accommodation for the students is negatively affecting academic activities.


The Chairman of the university’s governing council, Professor Daniel Bagah at the occasion expressed joy for the attainment of a university status by the school and commended the Upper West Regional Minister for the key role he played in the conversion process.


According to Professor Daniel Bagah, the government is retooling the university’s laboratory to ensure that the school churns out self-employable graduate to help reduce the rate of unemployment in the country. Professor Bagah gave the assurance that the Council will work to create an enabling environment to promote academic work.


On his part, the Wa Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Issahaku Tahiru Moomin who represented the Regional Minister at the event , encouraged the graduating students to be job creators rather than job seekers.

In all twelve students graduated with first class honours.
