The youth of the Kaleo Traditional Area have expressed profound gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and all key stakeholders following the confirmation of Madam Mary Haruna as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Nadowli-Kaleo District.
In a press statement signed by the Acting President of the Youth Group, Mr. David Jawara Banye, the youth conveyed their appreciation to the President for re-nominating Madam Haruna, whose nomination was duly approved by the Assembly Members on Monday, June 16, 2025.
The statement also extended thanks to the Upper West Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Abdul Nasir Saani (Bunas), the Upper West Regional Minister, Charles Lwanga Puozuing, the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency Chairman and his executive committee, as well as the Member of Parliament for their collective efforts in ensuring the DCE’s confirmation.
“You have all shown that, as and when the need arises, you put the district first,” the statement read.
The youth also acknowledged and commended other individuals who expressed interest in the position but were not selected.
“We thank you for your dedication to getting her confirmed. Please do not despair—we are optimistic that better opportunities lie ahead,” it added.
The group called on all residents, particularly the youth, to rally behind the newly confirmed DCE in her efforts to realize the vision of the President for the district.
They urged Madam Haruna to prioritize unity and peaceful coexistence, emphasizing that the initial rejection should not result in any form of resentment.
“To our confirmed DCE, we wish to caution that the initial rejection should not be a basis to hold grudges against anyone. Your commitment must be rooted in peace and the forward march of the district.”

The youth reiterated their belief that the development of the Nadowli-Kaleo District rests on the collective efforts of all stakeholders and urged everyone to put the district's interest above personal or partisan considerations.
Madam Haruna’s confirmation came after a tense and closely watched voting process, with Madam Haruna securing 46 votes in favor, against 5 votes of opposition, and 1 rejected ballot.
This confirmation underscores a notable political journey for Madam Mary Haruna, who was first nominated by President John Dramani Mahama two months ago. During her initial nomination, she faced an uphill battle, garnering only 24 votes in favor and 28 against — falling short of the required two-thirds majority needed for confirmation.
