The Daffiama Bussie Issa District Assembly has announced a significant expansion of its social and economic empowerment programs for 2026. In an interview with Info Radio, The District Chief Executive Hon. James Wor revealed that the district plans to increase the number of Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) beneficiaries from 2,000 to 5,000 this year. This move, according to him aims to better support the district’s most vulnerable populations through targeted household registration and social intervention.
Mr. Wor explained that a dedicated reassessment team will undertake a comprehensive review and new registration of households to identify the poor and vulnerable, ensuring that aid reaches those most in need. Additionally, he said the Assembly has enhanced its financial support for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), disbursing increased funds from the district’s common fund. According to him, beneficiaries now receive between GHC 2,500 and GHC 10,000 to help them scale up their businesses and improve their livelihoods.
In the agricultural sector, the DBI DCE disclosed that, the district has been selected as a pilot location for the government’s new Agricultural Mechanization Centre initiative in the region. Mr. Wor expressed optimism that this project will bring relief to local farmers, improving productivity and easing the challenges faced in farming activities in the upcoming season.
