Woman returns to sales of ice water as sachet water prices soar


As the prices of sachet water rise astronomically of recent, a woman was spotted selling ice water in Wa as a cost effective alternative.


When Info Radio took time to interact with her, she said the return to sales of ice water was occasioned by the skyrocketing nature of sachet water prices which had dire consequences on businesses.


Currently, a piece of sachet water is sold between 50 and 60 pesewas.


Madam Amina Salifu, popularly called Mayjida-Ma, who operates from Wa Sombo, said she hesitated at first selling the products but when we tried the first day, she reaped good sales.


Madam Amina observed that the economic hardships experienced in the country were hard-hitting and devastating.


She said days that she is unable to make good sales, her family finds it difficult to feed.


Over the last few months, there have been general uproars from the Ghanaian public over skyrocketing hikes in prices of goods and commodities, leading high cost of living.


Prices of petroleum, just like other, products have increased by over five-folds since the beginning of the year, 2022 which has spelled penury on the lives of Ghanaians.


The country’s economy went on shambles following the emergence of the Coronavirus pandemic and the spark of the Russian-Ukraine war and what many generally described as gross mismanagement of the economy further exacerbated by the fast depreciating Ghanaian currency.
